Situated 25 minutes from downtown Calgary, the Town of Chestermere has grown over 300% in the last ten years as families are continually drawn to the Town’s beautiful lake, friendly neighbourhoods, business opportunities and access to recreational activities.
 
As Alberta’s fastest growing municipality,the Town of Chestermere has rapidly evolved from a lakeside summer village into a dynamic, recreational oasis for nearly 16,000 residents. Following the irrigation development, the lake began to be used for recreation. People would lease land from the Western Irrigation District (WID) (which took control of the land from CPR in 1944), build cabins and stay on the lake during the summer months. In 1959, the Chestermere Cabin Owners Association (CCOA) was incorporated with approximately 50 members. The CCOA held events, bought a fire truck for the community, worked to reduce pollution in the lake, planted trees, and arranged for electricity and natural gas for the cabins.

Schools: Lake Chestermere has a High School, just east of town in the Municipal District of Rocky View. Earlier grades get bussed.

Chestermere Shopping

Chestermere has some convenience stores on both sides of the lake, but most people drive into Calgary for shopping.

Chestermere Recreation

Chestermere is built around Lake Chestermere, a shallow lake used for motorboating, sailing, and windsurfing. There is also a waterslide at the Intersection of Highways 1 and 1A. On the western shore is the Lakeside Green Golf Club. The community is connected to the Calgary recreational pathways, following the path of the Western Irrigation District slough. Chestermere Lake

Chestermere Lake – Chestermere is well known for its lake. In the summer, it is used for waterskiing, wakeboarding, fishing and a variety of other water sports. It also provides day use parks for launching boats and family areas for the enjoyment of the outdoors. Chestermere Lake is also home to the Calgary Yacht Club.

Chestermere Water Festival – The Chestermere Water Festival is an annual celebration of summer at the lake. Biking and skateboarding – Chestermere is connected to the Calgary bicycle pathway system at the south end of West
